Everyone else has a web sit about penguins.
Next Stop South Pole / Penguin Place was founded in 1985 at South Street Seaport, and I wrestled for
some time with the idea of an all-penguin club or publication that would bring together all the penguin lovers I was meeting
daily at the Seaport. I felt a responsibility being at what was rapidly becoming the center of the penguin collecting universe,
meeting, greeting, and exchanging many an interesting waddling tale from fellow penguin people. After giving the matter of
a club some thought it became apparent that a penguin collectors club would be impractical, as 85% of my customers were from
outside of the New York metropolitan area. Instead, I realized that I could use the ever increasing inventory of interesting,
humorous and insightful stories encompassing virtually every aspect of penguin-loving to create my own all-penguin publication.
I had the advantage of an unlimited source of material at my flippertips: I was privy to a daily dose of juicy penguin news,
information and gossip from all four corners of the globe just by opening my doors each day at Next Stop South Pole. And so on March 15th, 1995, a dream was realized when the worlds first all-penguin newsletter rolled
off the presses. Fittingly enough, the date also fell on the occasion of Next Stop South Pole's 10th anniversary.
